Can jars touch in a pressure canner?
The canner must have a rack and a tight-fitting lid. The rack keeps jars from touching the bottom of the canner and allows for water to circulate under jars. If it has dividers, jars will not touch each other or bump against sides of the canner during processing.
Have any instant pots exploded?
Unlike pressure cookers from decades past, Instant Pots do not explode. They have 10 built-in safety features designed to prevent them from operating in an unsafe manner. So they will automatically stop working or reduce the internal pressure if the sensors indicate a problem.
What happens if you over process canning?
“If jars are overfilled, the contents may siphon or boil out during processing,” Piper explains. “Any food residue remaining on the jar rim, such as grease, juice, seeds, or pulp can prevent the formation of an airtight seal.” Which is why you should also wipe off the jar rim after filling!

It’s probably a reaction to the minerals in your water. Mine is discolored. As for the smell, as they cook some of their juice can leak out of the top so you’ll smell whatever it is you’re canning.
Should my pressure cooker be hissing?
When pressure builds to high safety valves open just enough to release excess pressure which results in a hissing sound and a rattle of the wobbler on the lid. In most cases electric pressure cookers are the quietest because they can regulate pressure more efficiently but even a little hiss is normal.
Why is my pressure cooker so loud?
Why does my pressure cooker make noise, whistle, or release steam? Pressure cookers make noise, whistle, and release steam when they automatically sense the pressure inside is getting too high. So the pressure release valve opens automatically to ensure both safety, and proper pressure for the food you are cooking.
How do you clean a pressure canner?
After each use, wash the pressure canner with hot, soapy water then rinse and dry it. Use fine steel wool to remove particles from difficult-to-clean areas. You can remove hard-water stains on aluminum with a solution of water and cream of tartar: 1.
What happens if pressure is too high when canning?
In addition, many canners, such as the All American, come with both a dial and weight. If the pressure gets too high, the weight jiggles and releases steam and pressure. No blowing up. You do need to monitor your pressure canner while it is building pressure and during processing.

What is a false seal in canning?
A false seal can occur when jar rims are not wiped clean before processing, if a jar is not filled correctly, or if products are not processed correctly. Jars may appear to be sealed, but may come unsealed later. (If a jar does not seal at all, place it in the refrigerator and re-process it within 24 hours.)
